What are compost and composting

Compost is dark brown in colour, fine, with an aroma of forest soil, and is excellent for every garden. Compost is produced by the natural decomposition of organic matter, i.e. food waste, green trimmings, garden vegetables.  Even though composting might seem difficult and complicated, it is actually a very simple, natural process that is occurring every day in nature, without any human intervention at all.  If you ever walked through a forest, you encountered compost in its most natural environment. Both live plants and those that die every year at the end of the season are eaten by animals of all sizes, from various mammals, bird, worms, insects, and microscopic organisms.  The result of this natural cycle is compost, a mixture of decomposed or non-decomposed food, which lies in the forest, creating a rich, sweet aroma – humus.

We undertake composting at home in order to ensure decomposition of organic waste ourselves and to provide an additive that loosen and revitalises the soil, which is essential for successful gardening. Anyone can compost, without any issues whatsoever. Actually, it is impossible to prevent organic matter from decomposing. The key is to increase the scope of home composting and to reduce the unpleasant effects of the natural process, the decomposition of waste in nature, to the greatest degree possible. Carefully produced compost is useful, whereas the piles of rotten, spoilt food decomposing in waste disposal sites are harmful!

Why is composting beneficial?

What is the best recipe for composting?

Composting requires that we spend some time outside, in nature. Ideally, we should carefully select a spot for composting somewhere nearby, or close enough that we can easily carry remains from our plate to the composter. Looking for a suitable place for depositing the produced compost should be easy, as we can always find a spot somewhere on the green or in a corner of our garden where the produced compost can be most handy. A lot has been written about composting, but don’t let that stop you from starting. The process is very easy, and the results are absolutely wonderful.
